AboutUs
In 2008, Roger Duarte left the high paced – high-pressure world of investment banking to open his own business. He had a great idea and invested the time and money to test it.

Roger bought some stone crabs at wholesale, made a flyer and sold claws to his neighbors on Key Biscayne, Fla. (just 15 minutes from downtown Miami). The idea took off and soon Roger’s supply never lasted more than a few hours.

A year and a few wise moves later, Roger teamed up with one of largest (we mean one of the largest – and it’s not who you think) wholesaler of stone crabs in the country.

Today, George Stone Crab is largest national stone crab home delivery company. The company delivers by Mini Cooper in South Florida. And if you live as far as Anchorage, LA or Boston (Canada too), George will ship them to you overnight – never frozen.

George Stone Crab also has a robust export business, with distributors in Guatemala, Mexico, Turks & Caicos, Nicaragua, Panama and Venezuela. Through its distribution centers in Keys, and Miami (blocks from the city’s river), the company ships stone crabs to dozens of markets, fish houses and (shhhh) some very high profile restaurants.

With just one stone crab season in its history, George already sponsors the Food Network, South Beach Wine and Food Festival, it’s sister the New York Wine & Food Festival and a host of other events.

At the heart of the George Stone Crab team are more than 80 fishermen navigating Florida Bay in the Keys to bring you the freshest stone crabs in the country.

They take to the high seas every day, from Oct. 15 – May 15, and bring in between 3,000 to 5,000 pounds of claws daily. The George Stone Crab staff in Miami makes sure to pack and deliver each order of stone crabs claws within 24-36 hours of being caught and cooked.

George Stone Crab doesn’t believe in freezing its claws. We do believe in bringing you stone crabs that are fresher than anything you can buy at restaurants and at seafood and supermarkets.

And you don’t need to break the bank to crack a claw. Our prices are 40 to 60 percent less than top restaurants (we’re sure you can name a few stone crab eateries, right?).

Roger Duarte a.k.a
Founder/President
Favorite Claw: Jumbo

Roger is not a chef and he's not a fisherman. He's a numbers guy. Roger is a former investment banker who worked with big firms on million dollar deals.

Roger is also a bona fide lover of stone crabs. The man can eat five pounds easily in one sitting.

Roger began his career working as an investment banker and racked up experience analyzing industries for clients, drafting pitch books and investment proposals, conducting due diligence, preparing valuation financial models and drafting information memorandums.

Roger tried his hand at mergers and acquisitions, raised capital and developed and managed comprehensive financial models. After taking the golden parachute when the economy soured, Roger worked for free in a fish house, the largest distributor of stone crabs - to learn the seafood business.

Today he directs George Stone Crab, overseeing both its national delivery and international export business to Latin America and beyond.
Karim Vegas a.k.a
Chief Operating Officer
Favorite Claw: Large

Karim is multicultural/tri lingual/ and in fact confuses himself sometimes even when letting people know where he's from. He's travelled the world extensively, and has a background in finance, having spent more than three years as a business
analyst for restaurants and nightclubs. He loves numbers, whether it's counting the places he's been too or keeping track of the daily stone crab catch. As the chief operating officer, Karim oversees logistics, deliveries, and the daily operations of the business
Wesley Inigo
Customer Service Coordinator
Favorite Claw:

Wesley is our customer service coordinator, but mostly our go-to guy. He's been in customer service and sales for more than 10 years. Wesley handles our sales, manages deliveries, takes phone orders. In fact, he does it all. Actually, he's likely the voice you hear when you place your order to 800-273-CRAB.
Patricia Maldonado a.k.a
Director of Public Relations and Marketing
Favorite Claw:

Patty manages the public relations and marketing for George Stone Crab. She is a former newspaper reporter (The Miami Herald, Associated Press and The Naples Daily News) who made the jump to PR a few years ago.

Patty has her own PR firm, Little Fish Media LLC, hosts a radio show called SCORE, which airs on 880 AM The Biz at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, and teaches mass commucations.

As is the George Stone Crab way, Patty believes that the cost of PR should match the savings customers receive when they order claws. Meaning, it's all on a budget.
Harry Walls a.k.a
Master Cracker
Favorite Claw: All of them

Machin has worked in the fishing industry in Miami for 17 years. He manages the daily George Stone Crab catch, and cracks and packs every claw sent out for delivery. He loves to count the inventory day in and day out.
